Saskatoon Berry Amelanchier alnifolia Bears absolutely love this berry, I have seen them wallowing in the saskatoon berry bushes on the Waterton Lakes Golf Course, just off the number 9 hole. After foraging all morning they will break off the sprinkler heads to get a drink of water and romp around the golf course! Where else in the world could you see a sign on a golf course that reads, "Don't Harass the Bears"!

The Indians also used this berry extensively for pemmican, stews, tummy aches and other medicinal uses. Pemmican is one of the worlds perfect foods; translated means "travel food made for long trips" In case you are planning an extreme expedition to Glacier-Waterton and really want to rough it I have included the recipe for you!

Personally, I would just buy the jam! Remember your trip to Waterton each morning with your tea and toast. When you stay at the Northland you will get to try it out with our world famous muffins.
